Thanks for your comment! Oh, really? I just looked up it in “google images”, “compass” and “bow compass” are pretty different:

compassAnd it seems “bow compass” is a better term for the stuff that the drawing is talking about, what do you think?

Well, the word compass is used for those two different things. (It’s usually clear from the context which one someone is talking about.)
I think the term bow compass is better also. :)

We always just called it a “compass.” I never heard the term bow compass before but that seems right. You learn something new every day.
