Chocolate = 巧克力 [qiǎo kè lì]
The sun is out and the treats are melting: an ice-cream bar drips off its stick, and the chocolate beside it droops. Melting fast: 巧克力.
巧克力 (qiǎokèlì) means “chocolate.” It is a sound loan: the three characters were picked for their sound, qiǎo-kè-lì, not their meaning.
A piece or bar of chocolate is 一块巧克力 (yí kuài qiǎokèlì). Hot chocolate is 热巧克力 (rè qiǎokèlì).
